Game One is...OUTTA HERE!!
I know I haven't mentioned it before on this Blog, but that's mainly because there was really never any reason to, but now it must be said. I am a HUGE Baseball fan!! More importantly I am a HUGE St. Louis Cardinals fan! I have been for as long as I can remember. In fact some of my earliest memories involve making the 3 - 4 hour ride, with my family, from our hometown in West Tennessee to St. Louis, MO to see the birds play ball at Busch Stadium. My parents are huge cardinals fans as well, so I suppose I inherited it, and I have to admit that there were a few years, following the infamous Strike, where I no longer had the heart to watch any team take swings at the ball, but over the past few years the love for the game that has always been there, has resurfaced. And it was just in time too. Because, the Cardinals roster this year, has been phenomenal. As centerfielder Reggie Sanders said in a column on MLB.com, they're like a "Nintendo game" or something. WIth a starting lineup of Tony Womack, Larry Walker, Albert Pujols, Scott Rollen, Jim Edmonds, Edgar Renteria, Reggie Sanders, and Mike Matheny, there isn't a lot many opposing pitchers can throw at them, that will prevent the lumber from making contact with the ball. I could write a book about what's great about these guys, but I'll use some restraint.
But anyway the reason I am talking about these guys is because the Division Playoffs have begun and the cardinals came out swinging! They defeated the Dodgers 8 - 3, and tied a National League record for 5 homeruns in one post season game. (The only team to ever hit 5 homeruns in a Division Playoff game). I just hope that they've set a standard for postseason play and do not drop below that standard before the end of October. But I'm trying not to get too confident. Ya never want to count your Pennants before they're won. I just had to say something because that was one helluva showing! And they deserve a mention, because to play baseball is human, but to play it like the 2004 St. Louis Cardinals, is DIVINE!!
